Mosaic Panels
Reproduction mosaic control panels.
Introduction
The openSignalBox reproduction mosaic panels aim to provide a suitably realistic and cost-effective control panel for use with simulated signalboxes or model railways. They use a 3D-printed construction with all electronics mounted to a common modular base plate. These plates provide control and indication support for any possible space, leaving the mosaic domino itself as the only part with specific fixed configuration to the layout. These can be printed very cheaply and used with a transparent vinyl sticker, which gives a wear- and water-resistant finish. Thus it is possible to keep the same base and simulate several different panel layouts by swapping the dominos.
An online panel designer will allow for several styles of panel to be designed and assist with the layout. We will host a repository where users can share their panel designs. The designer will produce graphics which can be downloaded to print at home, or sent to a supplier who can print on the transparent vinyl. Users are free to come up with their own ways to produce the dominos too! The designer will also generate a bill of materials for the required base and printed domino styles.
